I Am Me
Who are you?
It is a question I have been asked multiples times throughout my life.
I choose to live out loud.
I choose to risk being hurt, ridiculed and mocked, because the joy of truly living, outweighs the fear of rejection.
It is a question I have been asked multiples times throughout my life.
I am a mom.
I am a
partner.
I am an
author.
I am a
daughter.
I am a
sister.
I am an
employee.
I am a
chauffeur.
I am a cook.
I am…
Who am I?
As I read
these words, they feel generic. Do they
really tell anyone who I am?
They are a
mask.
A wall.
They are the
words I use in small talk, with people I do not feel a connection with. They do not really describe who I am.
I was
watching Parenthood earlier this evening.
I am on Season 1 Episode 8. Sarah
Braverman asks her mom why her daughter hates her. Somewhere in the conversation mom tells Sarah
she identifies the most with her. She
tells her she admires Sarah for not being afraid to take risks and that she
needs to embrace that part of herself.
I wish I
could find a clip of it. It was one of
those ah-ha moments for me.
This is why…
I have a small fear of taking risks, but I LOVE taking them. And
I do take them. I put myself out
there for the world to judge and scrutinize.
I might not
be jumping out of airplanes or hiking across China, but when I put my mind to
something I jump in with both feet.
Sometimes I
land on my ass and have to put my tail between my legs and face my
failures.
Sometimes I
land on my feet and take off running.
And
sometimes… well sometimes I fly.
Those
moments I fly… they are what makes every risk, every failure and every
heartache worth the moment where I jumped.
I am…
I am a
creator.
I create the
world I want to live in. Because of my
creations, I have become a mother.
I have
become a partner.
I have
become an author.
Although I
was born into my family, I become a daughter and I become a sister because of
my choices.
I create my
life.
I am a
creator.
I am
transforming.
I choose how
to become better. I choose to shed old
and negative habits and embrace positivity and empowerment.
I am
evolving.
I am strong.
I am
powerful.
I am
beautiful.
I am
inspiring.
I am
adventurous and I am fun.
I am unique.
I am all of
these and more, because I choose to be.
Anyone can describe themselves with a role they play in life, but how
will anyone really know you if you play small.
I am so much more than my roles in life.
I choose to live out loud.
I choose to risk being hurt, ridiculed and mocked, because the joy of truly living, outweighs the fear of rejection.
I am
compassionate.
I am playful
and I am full of sparkle.
I am a
light. A light that flickers, on occasion,
and needs reminders of who I am.
I am me.
Don’t play
small.
Live life
out loud and be the light in the world.
I love this post so much!
